Janice Persinger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home - Norton on Jan. 30, 2026.
Janice Kay (Anderson) Persinger entered into eternal glory on January 29, 2026.

Janice was born to Casper and Anna (Willand) Anderson on August 5, 1937 in Leeds, North Dakota. She grew up on the family farm with two brothers, Warren and Lyle, and two sisters, Lucille and twin-sister Janet.

She attended public school in Leeds, ND and graduated from Leeds High School in 1955.

Janice went to college at Valley City Teachers College in Valley City, ND and graduated with a two-year teaching degree in 1957. She taught elementary school in Washburn, ND; Hallock, MN; and Grand Forks, ND.

She was united in marriage to Gordon Persinger on December 22, 1959 in Leeds, ND. It was a very memorable wedding, as the temperature outside was -30 below zero.

While living in Grand Forks, ND as Gordon was working on a masters degree at the University of North Dakota, a son Kelly was born on October 23, 1960. The family later moved to Fergus Falls, MN where another son Bradley was born on February 26, 1967.

In 1969, the family moved to Norton, Kansas where Gordon started work at Valley Hope. Janice also worked at Valley Hope in the mid-1970s, where she continued her employment through 1989.

Janice was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Norton, KS. She taught Sunday School and also served on the church council.

Janice was an avid card player who loved to play bridge and pinochle. She enjoyed playing golf and walking much of her life and would regularly read 50-60 books per year. In later years, Janice and Gordon lived in Mesa, Arizona at Viewpoint RV & Golf Resort for half of the year.

Janice lived a life of deep connections, as a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her earliest, enduring, and life-long connection was with her twin-sister, Janet.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents Casper and Anna (Willand) Anderson, brother Warren, and sister Lucille. She is survived by husband Gordon of the home, son Bradley of the home, son Kelly (Olathe, KS), brother Lyle, twin-sister Janet, and granddaughter Olivia.

Cremation has taken place. A service will be held at a later date at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Norton, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church and sent in care of Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, 215 W. Main St. Norton, KS 67654. Condolences may be left at www.plumergobber.com
