Janice L. Tananis

Janice L. (Havice) Tananis, of Conewago Township, passed away at home on Saturday, November 29th. She was the devoted wife of Francis "Skip" Tananis, for over 52 years.
Throughout her life, Jan held various jobs in the local area; however, her primary role and proudest accomplishments were at home. Jan was a loving wife and mother, a cherished grandmother, and a steadfast friend to many. She was committed to her family, delighted in taking care of people, and spent a lifetime making sure that home was the very best place to be.
Jan was clever, resourceful, and endlessly curious. Her many interests ranged from cooking, baking, gardening and preserving food, to sewing, crafting, creating, recycling, and refurbishing antiques. The list was always growing, and she would freely share her know-how with anyone who had a need or simply showed an interest.
An avid reader, she regularly devoured books of all kinds. From relaxation with fiction and fantasy to researching with history, science and facts; when something sparked her curiosity, she would start reading, exploring every available angle of a new subject. The evolution of the internet brought even more volumes of information straight to her favorite chair in the living room. She never stopped learning.
Jan was passionate about plants. She loved trees, shrubs, and flowers of all kinds, and grew a variety of foods. She was skilled at both cooking and canning so there were always fresh fruits, vegetables, jam, breads, and other delicious foods in the house. She had her own greenhouse, and recently added beekeeping to her long list of hobbies. Her love of nature guaranteed that she did everything with a keen sense of conservation and care for the environment.
She was a talented seamstress who created clothing, costumes, dolls, barbie clothes, and baby blankets, along with countless alterations of all types. Most recently, she was busy making custom harnesses for her new puppy and refurbishing vintage sewing machines.
She was exceedingly proud of her grandchildren, loved watching them learn and grow, and was most happy when they were all together.
Jan was kind, cheerful, optimistic and loving. She will be deeply missed by her husband Skip, her sister Kathy, her daughters, Karin, Jacki, Patty, and Debbie, her grandchildren, Hailey, Ryan, Mena, Cody, Zachary, Tyler, Callie, Lyndsay, Chase, and Paul, and by her 7 month old Cavapoo, Chloe.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Jan's life will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025 at 3:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave, McSherrystown, PA 17344. A viewing will be held on Monday from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
