Janice Terwilliger, 84, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Carolina East Medical Center.
Born on September 23, 1941, in Canada, Kentucky, Janice was the daughter of the late Cecil and Gladys Chapman. Throughout her life, Janice was known for her kindness and generous spirit, always making those around her feel special and cherished. Her vibrant personality filled her days with fun and laughter, and she had a remarkable ability to uplift the spirits of others. With a saying that resonated deeply with her, "a stranger is just someone you haven’t met," Janice embodied warmth in all her interactions.
A woman of adventure, Janice celebrated her 60th birthday by skydiving, an experience that reflected her zest for life. Living along the coast, she enjoyed her beloved beach walks, often covering 10 miles a day even at the age of 74. These walks allowed her to admire the beauty of nature, engage with fellow beachgoers, and build an impressive collection of seashells. Janice also had a passion for gardening, known particularly for cultivating exceptional tomato plants.
Janice’s family cherished her dearly and they will always hold a special place in their heart for her. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, supportive sister, and proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
Those who remain to celebrate her life are her children, Suzanne Hermance (William) of Florida, James Ganci (Richard Gordon) of New York, Janet Cosh (Randy) of New York, and Charles Ganci (Melinda) of Tennessee; siblings, Brenda Joyce Davis and Charlie Owens Chapman; grandchildren, Nicole, Michelle, John, Danielle, Luke, Jayne, Alyssa, and Jakob; and 8 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Terwilliger; and siblings, Virginia Gale Chapman, Pricy Elizabeth Leasure, Ronald Dean Chapman, Cecil Chapman Jr., and Donald Jean Chapman.
