Sharon Jane "Janie" Terwilliger, 78, of Wooster, Ohio, passed away suddenly on September 4, 2024.
She was born November 3, 1945 in Pomona, California to Carl and Ver (Simmers) Rittenour. In 1952, she and her mother moved to Fredericksburg where her mother married her stepfather, Samuel Redett. After retiring from the Ohio State Highway Patrol where she served as a dispatcher in Ashland and Wooster for 30 years, she worked as a music and drama teacher in the Kingsway Christian School system where she was employed at the time of her death.
She graduated from Waynedale High School and Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, with a degree in Music and Theatre, with postgraduate work at the University of Akron.
She attended Orrville Christian Church in Orrville, previously attending Heyl Road Church of Christ/Southridge Fellowship and Parkview Church of Christ (Christian). She also was a frequent contributor at First Church of God in Wooster, where she held an annual summer gospel concert, Singspiration, for the last 20 years with many family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Carolyn) Terwilliger and Michelle (Micah) Lewis, her grandchildren Kylee (EJ) McKenna, Allen (Lizzy) Terwilliger, Sharon Lewis, Hannah Lewis, Abby (Nash) Knowlton, Sam Terwilliger and Miles Terwilliger, great-grandson Joey McKenna and a daughter-in-law, Beth Terwilliger. Her son, Mike Terwilliger, died previously.
Next to Jesus first and her family second, music was her love. She was a piano teacher for over 50 years and a founding member of the Wayne County Choral Union, of which she was a member throughout their existence. She was executive musical director for Amarinic Productions in Wooster, directed plays at Triway High School for many years and frequently sang at churches locally. She was a member of the gospel quartet, Sweet Spirit, with friends Maggie, Becky, Melissa and Patty for 20 years. She was also an avid reader, a quilter and lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians/Guardians.
