Kaye Bartlett of Wooster, Ohio, passed away on October 31, at Ohio Lifecare Hospice in Wooster.
Kaye was born on August 2, 1933, in Freeland, Michigan, and lived to be 91 years old. He was the youngest child of George Bartlett and Fannie (Wilson). He grew up on the family farm with an older sister and two older brothers.
He watched both his older brothers depart and return from military service during World War II.
After graduation from high school, he served briefly in the Navy and then went to Michigan State University. After graduation, he accepted a job in Wooster with the Cooperative Extension Service where he worked with the Wayne County 4-H program.
He met Nancy (Winkler) in Wooster, and they were married in 1961 at the Chapel of the Transfiguration in Moose, Wyoming.
He and Nancy moved to East Lansing, Michigan and earned Master's Degrees at Michigan State University. Then they moved to Strongsville, Ohio, where Kaye returned to work with the Extension Service.
After the birth of their first son, Bryan, they moved to Washington Court House and had a second son, Jeffrey.
Kaye and Nancy were active members of the community, and the family attended the First Presbyterian Church.
Kaye balanced family life with his pursuit of education and earned a PhD from the Ohio State University. He retired from the Extension Service in 1985.
Kaye and Nancy moved back to Wooster after raising their sons and lived in the house on Canal Road where Nancy grew up. They enjoyed most of the year in Ohio but spent fifteen winters at the Tip-o-Texas Resort in Pharr, Texas, where Kaye edited the park newspaper.
Kaye and Nancy eventually moved to Danbury Senior Living of Wooster. Nancy passed away in 2019.
Kaye spent his final years at Danbury where he enjoyed his interactions with the staff. He usually had a story or joke to tell and enjoyed discussing his travels, family, and the Buckeyes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his special friend Jean Barnes.
Kaye was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Nancy, his sister Jean Bartlett and brothers Laverne Bartlett and George Bartlett.
He is survived by his son, Colonel Bryan Cy Bartlett, U.S. Air Force, retired, his wife Amy Bartlett and their daughters Grace and Faith Bartlett of Sterling, Virginia; granddaughter Cloe Bartlett of Orlando, Florida; son Major Jeffrey Bartlett, U.S. Air Force, retired, and his wife Melissa of Kapolei, Hawaii; granddaughter Sierra Landacre, her husband Steven Landacre, and their daughter Abygale and son Colt, of Dublin, Ohio.
The family would like to thank the staff of Danbury Senior Living, Wooster Hospital & Ohio LifeCare Hospice for the care and compassion they acted with during this difficult time.
Visitation for Kaye will be on Wednesday, November 6th at 1:30 PM at the Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr. in Wooster.
Funeral Services will then follow on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor David Rice officiating followed by interment at Wooster Cemetery where military honors will also be rendered.
The family requests memorial donations be made in his name to the Cleveland VA Fisher House, 10521 Lee Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44106 or the First Presbyterian Church of Wooster 621 College Ave. Wooster, Ohio 44691.
