Janice E. Tonyan

Janice E. Tonyan, age 82, of McHenry, passed away on October 5th, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Janice was born March 27th, 1936 at home in Johnsburg, IL to the late Alfred and Marie Oeffling. On April 7th, 1956 she married Edward H. Tonyan, Jr., at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg. Janice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She was a true inspiration of Catholic devotion, love and volunteerism. As a very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, she was involved in many ministries and was one of the 2018 Women of Inspiration. She was a member of the Lady Foresters, Council of Catholic Women and St. Mary Rosary Guild. She enjoyed cooking (especially for her family), playing cards, dominoes, golfing, bowling, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She retired from ComEd after many years of service and continued working at McHenry Bank & Trust as a courier. Beloved mother of Mike (Cathy) Tonyan, Thomas Tonyan, and Cindy (Scott) Dixon. Loving grandmother of Lyndsey Tonyan, Ross (Beth) Tonyan, Nicole Tonyan, Michael Dixon, Melissa Dixon and Steven Dixon. Dear sister of Ardelle (Ron) Conway, Bill (Debbie) Oeffling, Phil (Linda) Oeffling and Julie (Bill) Ledger. Cherished sister-in-law of Andy Oeffling and Joan Tonyan. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Janice is proceeded in death by her husband, Edward H. Tonyan, Jr., her parents Alfred and Marie Oeffling, in-laws Edward and Hannah Tonyan, brother Thomas L. Oeffling and brother-in-law John J. Tonyan. The family would like to thank the exemplary staff of JourneyCare Center for their compassion and care of Janice. In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to send an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to JourneyCare Hospice, 405 Lake Zurich Road Barrington, IL 60010 or to St. Mary Catholic Church, 1407 N Richmond Rd, McHenry, IL 60050. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1407 N. Richmond Rd., McHenry, IL from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm followed by Mass at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in McHenry.
