Janice Waldrip Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilderness Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Chinook from Feb. 1 to Feb. 11, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and cousin, Janice Earlene Strain Waldrip, who took her final breath on January 31, 2026. This date holds special significance, as it marks the 72nd anniversary of her marriage to her true love, Don, in Chinook, Montana.

Janice, who lived a vibrant life of 91 years, faced the challenges of dementia in her later years, a journey that began with the loss of her sight. This change robbed her of the joys she cherished-reading, baking, solving crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, playing the organ, and driving. During this time, she often expressed her desire to return home, tirelessly packing and unpacking in an endless cycle. To us, it felt like a scene from *Groundhog Day*, but for her, each day was another step towards the home she longed for.

As the matriarch of our family, Janice's passing signifies the end of an era. We are committed to preserving her stories, memories, and the love she shared with us for generations to come. A God-fearing woman, Janice honored her parents, cherished her husband, and held her family and friends close to her heart.

Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to Nathan Adelson Hospice for their compassion and guidance during this difficult time. Honoring Mom's wish to remain at home was a gift that meant everything to us.

Montana was always her true home, and soon her loved ones will gather there to bid their final farewells. A service will be held at the American Lutheran Church in Chinook on February 14, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Janice will be honored with a horse-drawn hearse to the graveside, where she will rest beside her beloved husband

Rest easy, Mom. You are finally home. We love you and will carry you with us always.

In celebration of Janice's life, a gathering will be held on her birthday, May 16, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada .
