Janice Elaine Warren (Cartmell), age 86, of Horton, Michigan, passed away peacefully under the loving care of her family on October 19, 2025. She was born on December 24, 1938, in Jackson, Michigan, to Gerald and Ruth (Raymond) Cartmell.
Janice is survived by her loving children Owen "Rocky" Warren, Douglas (Brenda) Warren, and Gregg Warren; cherished grandchildren James Cornwell, George Cornwell, Ariel Warren, Caitlin Warren, Doug (Alexandra) Warren, Heather (Henry Bretthauer) Mannor, and Luke Warren; fourteen great-grandchildren; siblings Dean (Donna) Cartmell of Hanover, Michigan, and Dewayne (Janice) Cartmell of Murray, Kentucky; aunt to many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Sally Cartmell.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years Owen "Pete" Warren; daughter Sherry (the late Ernie) Cornwell of Grovetown, Georgia; parents Gerald and Ruth Cartmell of Horton, Michigan; siblings Sandra (the late John) Iverson of Bruceton, Tennessee, and Steven Cartmell of Martin, Tennessee.
A lifelong resident of Horton, Michigan, she graduated from Hanover-Horton High School in 1956. She has enjoyed crocheting throughout her life, a skill she learned from her mother, who was also taught by her mother-passing down a cherished family tradition.
Janice was well known for her culinary talents. Her family appreciated her homemade bread, lasagna, and chili, which she grew in her garden and preserved with care and love.
She was a dedicated mother and grandmother, always prioritizing her family above all else. She will be forever missed by everyone who knew her.
A funeral service to honor her life will be held at the Hanover Baptist Church (140 W. Allen Street, Hanover, Michigan) on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, beginning at 2 P.M. with Pastor Robert Shevy and Pastor Joe Tassell officiating. Interment will follow at Horton Cemetery, Horton, Michigan. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, October 28, from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service at the church. A memorial contribution can be made to Hanover Baptist Church. Donation envelopes will be at the church.
