Janie Wandaline Burgess Smith, aged 93, of Lavonia, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Bountiful Hills Assisted Living in Commerce.

Born on July 15, 1932, in Franklin County, Janie was the daughter of the late Guy and Myrtie Hunnicutt Burgess. She spent her career at Fair Play Manufacturing, where she retired after many years of dedicated service.

Janie was a vibrant soul who loved staying active and cherished engaging in meaningful conversations with her family and friends. Her infectious laughter and joyful spirit were her trademarks, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Janie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Loren Earl Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Mary Smith, and her grandchildren, Christian, Joshua, Ashlynn Smith, and Christine Adams. She is also survived by her brother, Truman Burgess, along with a niece and several nephews. Janie was preceded in death by her daughter, Jackie Smith; brother, Tommy Burgess, and two sisters, Vernelle Burgess and Peggy Ramsey.

She will be buried in Sheldon, IL, where she and her husband resided for many years. The family will honor her life with a private celebration at a later date.
