Janine Irene (Finney) Markell was born in Portland, Oregon, on April 29, 1950, to John and Lillian Finney. After graduating from St. Mary's Academy in 1968, she met John Markell, and a year later, they were married; thus, beginning a partnership that would last 56 amazing years. Together, they built a home and life full of love in West Linn, Oregon, where they raised their two children. Janine's warmth extended to all with whom she came in contact. She had a passionate talent for cooking and baking, and created strong traditions around family dinners, poured love and happiness into birthday desserts, and found joy in everyday life. She enjoyed collecting cookbooks, decorating for the holidays, and watching a myriad of cooking shows. With all these tremendous qualities, she was fondly referred to as "Queenie" by her caregiver, which suited her quiet strength and caring nature. Janine is preceded in death by her parents John and Lillian Finney and her sister, Jonna Sue Finney. She is survived by her husband, John Markell; her son, John J. Markell, his wife, Andi Dietz Markell, and their two daughters, Lyla Markell and Emmie Markell. She is also survived by her daughter, Kari Markell Petersen, her husband Michael Petersen, and their son, Jack Petersen. Her grandchildren lovingly called her "Grammy", and she always made them feel special and deeply loved. She will be remembered most for her deep devotion to her family, and the many joys she shared so generously. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Legacy Hospice. https://www.legacyhealthgiving.org/donations?designationGUID=7a6a6b11-22dd-47eb-8c51-763f6f10c97b&type=c
