Lorain - Janis R. Mason, 79, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at her home in Lorain.

Janis, born in Lorain, Ohio on October 13, 1946, to parents John "Ray" and Helen Pentz, remained a lifelong resident of her hometown.

Janis was a true embodiment of service and dedication, which she demonstrated through her long and distinguished career in healthcare. After graduating from Lorain High School in 1964, she pursued her passion for nursing and graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Practical Nursing in 1970. Janis served as a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital for 26 years, primarily in surgery, where she comforted countless patients with her warmth and care. For 14 years, she also worked with Dr. Roger Friedman, touching lives and making a difference every day. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." Janis found her purpose in service, and her commitment to her patients was a testament to her selfless and compassionate nature.

Outside of her professional life, Janis was a woman of many talents and interests. She was a competitive roller skater and once held the title of Ohio State Champion in her division, showcasing her tenacity and competitive spirit. She loved boating and frequently traveled to the Caribbean with her late husband, Robert Mason, creating a lifetime of unforgettable memories. Janis also volunteered with a miniature Pinscher rescue group, reflecting her love for animals and her desire to make a difference in any way she could.

She is survived by her step-son, Christopher (Aura) Mason; mother-in-law, Rose Eddington; aunt, Shirley (Dean) Brooks; niece, Rose Snyder; step-grandchildren, Brianna and Aries, and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Mason; parents, Ray and Helen Pentz; grandparents, John and Jeannette Pentz, and Leo and Lena Robinson.

A private entombment will be held at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, OH. Memorial donations may be made in Janis's memory to any animal welfare group of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family using www.rsgfuneralhome.com.
