Janis Rozovich, 93, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, in Lexington, Kentucky. She lived a long and full life marked by warmth, hospitality, and deep devotion to her family.
The sixth of seven daughters, Jan was born on July 3, 1932, to Beverly and Mona Howell Stephens in the Appalachian community of Dana, Kentucky. She was raised in Betsy Layne, Kentucky, on a humble farm along the banks of the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River. Her father, a man of vision, encouraged each of his daughters to chase their dreams beyond the hills of Eastern Kentucky. Jan took that advice to heart and after graduating from high school in 1950, she eventually settled in Lexington, where one fateful evening at a bowling alley she met Mike Rozovich-the love of her life.
Jan and Mike shared 70 years of marriage, 65 of them in the cherished home they built on Albany Road. Their partnership was filled with love, laughter, and a shared sense of adventure. After retirement, they traveled the world together, cruising the Greek Isles, exploring Tuscany, relaxing on Caribbean beaches, and collecting treasured memories that they joyfully shared with their children and grandchildren.
A woman of her time, Jan was a consummate hostess and was admired by many for her culinary talents. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel welcome in her home-guests were always greeted with fresh vegetables and dip alongside their favorite beverage. Dinner at Jan's was a memorable experience, served in the formal dining room with at least three courses and always concluded with a cup of decaf coffee (hazelnut being her favorite). There was no doubt that her gracious hospitality was yet another opportunity for her to show love and care.
Jan's pastimes reflected her creative spirit and her fondness for nurturing others. She found joy in cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and reading. Whether she was preparing a family meal from scratch or stitching a needlepoint canvas, she poured her heart into every detail. Her home was a place of beauty, warmth, and unwavering generosity.
She was a devoted grandmother who filled summer visits with books, museum outings, and classic games like Tippecanoe, Labyrinth, Lincoln Logs, and Marble Race. Christmases were celebrated on Kiawah Island for over a decade-creating lasting memories that bound her family together in joy and tradition.
Jan had an impeccable eye for design and an elegant sense of style that was evident in everything she touched-from her fashion to the welcoming spaces of her home. She carried herself with grace and poise, always leading with kindness and quiet strength.
Jan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Rozovich, and her grandson, Adam Michael Rozovich. She is survived by her son, Michael Rozovich, II (Jennifer); daughter, Mona Rozovich (Lee Irwin); granddaughter, Lindsay Rozovich; and great-granddaughters, Audrey Rozovich and Ruby Bates, all of whom are grateful for her legacy of love, beauty, and resilience.
Her life was a testament to enduring love, timeless grace, and the importance of family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Cedarhurst of Beaumont for their compassionate care of Jan in the final months of her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, Bluegrass Care Navigators, or a
