Janis C. Wamsley, age 88 years, a resident of Huttonsville passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025. She was born June 3, 1937 at Huttonsville, a daughter of the late Jesse A. McGee and Woodsie Conrad McGee. On January 26, 1957 at Huttonsville, she was married to Vernon D. Wamsley who survives. She is survived by one son, Donald E. Wamsley and wife Cheryl of Ohio; one brother, Hubert McGee of Yellow Springs, WV and two sisters, Marguerite Aills of Alexandria, VA and Nancy Dean of Martinsville, VA. Two very special cousins who were like sisters to Janis, Brenda Hornbeck and Evelana Fox and two grandchildren, Alicia C. Wamsley and Jared A. Wamsley also survive. Also preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were one brother, Robert McGee; one sister, Marlene McGee; one aunt who was like a mother to Janis, Geraldine Fidler and one cousin who was like a brother, Tommy Fidler. Janis was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School with the class of 1956. Her employment consisted of working as a typist at Westinghouse Electric MI in Cleveland, OH, the Board of Education in Cleveland, OH and Producers Milk Company as a store manager and relief manager for twenty-six stores in Cleveland and surrounding areas. She would also babysit for many children. She then moved back to West Virginia where she worked for Demo Company in Elkins and surrounding areas and the American Greeting Company and babysat many children. Janis was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Valley Chapel Church where she helped with many dinners. She attended the Mt. View Church of the Nazarene and if anyone was in need, she was always there to lend a helping hand. She loved to cook, can and work in her flower gardens and making crafts. She loved her grandchildren, Jared and Alicia with all her heart and was there always for them when they needed her. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, August 21, 2025 at the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville, WV with Pastors Tim Turner and Pastor Frank Stanley officiating. Interment will follow. The family request memorial contributions be made to the Mt. View Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 118, Mill Creek, WV 26280 or a charity of choice in memory of Janis. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Janis C. Wamsley. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
