John Howard Adams, Sr., age 92 years, a former resident of Lanham, MD passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Castle of Love Assisted Living in Bowie, MD under the care of Capital Caring Hospice. He was born September 18, 1933 at Huttonsville, WV a son of the late Sam W. and Helen Sirbaugh Adams. On June 18, 1964 in Chillum, MD, he was married to Helen Brown who preceded him in death May 15, 2023. He is survived by one son, John H. Adams, Jr. of Laurel, MD; one daughter, April E. Faber of Cape Saint Claire, MD; one sister, Janie Long of Dayton, OH and two grandchildren. Also preceding him in death in addition to his parents and wife were one brother, Jennings Adams and two sisters, Janet Ganis and Judy Bayes. Mr. Adams was a high school graduate and was a Paratrooper in the United States Army. He was an instructor for the Metro Public Transit. He was so full of life, loving the outdoors and deer hunting with his father and brother. He attended the Glen Dale Baptist Church. The family would like to express their appreciation to Ms. Branch and Ms. Wallace of the Castle of Love Assisted Living for their excellent care and love they gave to their father.

Friends may call from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm Monday, October 6, 2025 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Monday from the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville where full military honors will be accorded by members of West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, HW Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3649 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for John Howard Adams, Sr. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
