Jason Bogan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Homes - Chicago on Jun. 10, 2024.
Jason V. Bogan, age 45; beloved son of Shirley and the late Michael Bogan, Sr.; stepson of Natalie Bogan; loving brother of Michael (Katie) Bogan; cherished uncle of Sarah, Michael, and Avery; esteemed former husband of Venus Lewis; dedicated law enforcement servant for nearly 20 years, returned to God on June 8, 2024.
Jason was born in Colorado on March 22, 1979, but he spent nearly all his life in and around the Chicago area. At East Leyden High School, he was a standout athlete in shot put and football. There, he earned MVP honors and a place on the Athletic Wall of Fame, leading to a football scholarship. Jason attended college and played linebacker for Northern Illinois University and Aurora College. On the football field, Jason challenged his teammates and intimidated his opponents with size, speed, and power. However, off the field, he became the affable "teddy bear" with the big, beaming smile. After college, Jason pursued a life of service to his community, first as an officer and later as an investigator. He took pride in his law enforcement career and his dedication to others.
Jason was a man who mattered to many. He was a son who dearly loved his mother and father and did his best to make them proud. As a brother, Jason offered comfort in tough times, enjoyed togetherness through Bible study, and shared in countless inside jokes, nicknames, and movie quotes. He and his brother were best friends and friendly rivals, still comparing bicep size far into adulthood.
Jason was a proud uncle who often checked in with his nieces and nephew, offering to protect them from anyone who might bring them harm. As a cousin, he welcomed family members to his home, shared meals, and spent precious time with people he cared about. In his career, law enforcement partners entrusted their lives to Jason, and grateful community members valued his service.
A friend to many, Jason was the kind of man who never met a stranger. He had a generosity of spirit that made people feel like he was their best friend. Those who love him experienced his care, comfort, humor, cleverly chosen nicknames, fun-loving teasing, protection, advice, and most importantly, his unwavering love.
Jason enjoyed sports, in particular the 49ers and the White Sox. He liked action movies and could deliver side-splitting imitations of the actors. He had a special tenderness toward those who needed help or encouragement, and that extended to his love of animals and his support of no-kill animal shelters.
Jason will be remembered for his meticulous attention and devotion to his rescue dog, Creed, his contagious laugh, his beautiful smile, and the joyous memories he leaves behind. Jason leaves to cherish is memories: Mom, Shirley; Stepmom, Natalie; Michael (Katie); his nieces and nephew, Rosemont and Illinois Secretary of State Police, and a host of families and friends. He will always be remembered by those whose lives he touched.

I taught Jason for three years. I always enjoyed him and his family. Very shocking to have a former student pass away.
