Jason Nicholas Chavis, son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 25, 2022, at the age of 25.
Jason is survived by his parents, Jason Sterling Chavis and Dawn Nicole (Nicholas) Greathouse (Joshua Greathouse). His siblings Jalen Nicholas Chavis, Jacoby Chavis, Jaxon Chavis, and Mia Greathouse. His great grandmother, Rosa Fleeta Nicholas, his grandparents, Dr. James Nicholas (Lavernne Nicholas), Lisa Jeanne Chavis, and Jimmie Fennell (Sherri Fennell). He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Lorraine Nicholas; his great grandparents Lt. Colonel George D. Nicholas, Clarence Sterling, Charlotte (Bishop), and his uncle, Ronald Sterling Chavis. He is the nephew of George Douglas Nicholas (Ovetta), Jamon Chavis (Brooke), Tanya Cherie Nicholas, Eric LaMont Nicholas (India Reed), Julie Sloan (Geter), Samantha Moon. First cousin to Aidan James Nicholas, Christina Lorraine Nicholas, Brooklyn Chavis, Madison Chavis, and Jamon Chavis II.
Jason was born May 7, 1996, one month premature of his original birth due date, sharing the same birthday with his very loving grandmother, Lisa Jeanne Chavis. Jason loved the sports of football and basketball and began playing at the age of 10 for the McKeesport midgets football team. Later playing for Gateway Area High School and McKeesport Area High School. Jason earned a student-athlete scholarship to Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA, and was on the dean's list his sophomore year. Jason was one semester shy of obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications.
Jason had many outward talents including rapping and writing poetry, he was extremely passionate about his craft; and used this platform to release inner joys and internal conflicts. Jason was a young man that loved HARD. Jason wore his heart on his sleeve and was the biggest "teddy bear." He was nonjudgmental of others and was always available to lend an ear and hand of support (within his means) to others. He had an amazingly big, bright smile that could light up a room. Jason worked as a quality inspector in manufacturing and delivery driver.
Jason enjoyed driving and would travel at a moment's notice between states to see about his family and friends. Jason thoroughly loved his family and friends and found great pleasure in spending quality time with them eating a good meal, especially a steak dinner.
When spending time with his closest friends, he loved competing on the PS5, ripping "flaming people up!" and just being in their company. Finally, Jason was awesome with children. Kids everywhere loved him because he knew how to meet them at their level to play.
Although Jason's passing is unexpected and virtually unbearable, we must take comfort in knowing that God already planned the day he would come into this world and the day he would leave. Knowing that this time would seem too short for us, God gave us a gift in Jason that would live on forever. That big warm smile, those bright loving eyes, a wonderful sense of humor, and an amazing ability to love others unconditionally. Mourn him today, but remember him always. He is not alone; his NaNa is in heaven waiting with open arms. Rejoice in knowing Jason is in peace. He has gone home to be with the Lord.

He was the sweetest person I´ve ever met. In the short period of time I got to spend with Jason he made me feel special. He had so much on his plate but still acted as if nothing was bothering him. He was so funny and always was there when needed and I´m just happy I got to spend the time I did with him to see that. I´m sending my prayers and condolences to his family and friends
