Jason R. "Jaybird" Guthrie, 53, of Rawlings, MD, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Born on October 26, 1971 in Cumberland, MD, he was a son of the late James "Jim" and Elizabeth "Annie" (Kelly) Guthrie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by special friends, Jason "Jake" Kyle and Andy VanMeter.
Jason was a truly selfless, humble and hard working individual to all that knew him, dedicating his life to caring for his mother, until she passed away and for his brother, Ed. He had a passion for the outdoors, depending on the season, like hunting for the big buck, mushroom hunting or four wheeler rides in the hills of Dan's Mountain to the hollow.
Jay's love, kindness and a bit of hard headedness, inspired all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by all.
Surviving is his brother Edward Guthrie; his beloved dog, "Ace;" his uncle, Robert Guthrie and wife Sylvia; his aunt, Anna Mae White and husband Kenny and many cousins that he cherished including Shawn Kelly and his wife Missy. Also surviving are many friends who were like family to him; (The 220 Crew); Billie Jo Taylor, Joe and Ella James, Tee, Angie and Tyler Nash and wife Lindsey, Vic Westfall and wife Missy, Jimmy Cook and wife Tabby, Chris Paitsel and wife Michelle, Lucas Paitsel and wife Kate, Chuckie Upperman, Glen Kyle, Greg Cook and wife Bobbi Kaye and Dave Kasmier and wife Danelle.
At Jay's request, his body was donated to the WV Human Gift Registry.
A memorial service will be held at the Danville Community Baptist Church, Rawlings, MD on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. All family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Jason's life with his favorite saying "Wait for it."
At a later date, Jason will be laid to rest at the Waxler Cemetery, Rawlings with his parents.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff on 8SE and Maureen Hogan at Ruby Memorial Hospital and to the entire staff at WVU Medicine, Potomac Valley Hospital. You all have a special place in our hearts.
