Jason A. "Jonesy" Jones, 46, was born on a holiday weekend, July 5, 1978, with fireworks and all. He is the first-born son of Sue Gilliam and Gary Jones. It is with deep sorrow that Jason tragically left this world on Saturday afternoon, May 17, 2025.
Jason was a graduate of Gallia Academy High School and Buckeye Hills Career Centers, as a welder. After high school, he went to work with asbestos. He also worked as a tree trimmer for Townsend Tree Services, although he was scared of heights, that didn't stop him from going to work. And most recently, he was a proud employee of MPW.
Jason had the biggest heart and loved his family dearly and had a loving, caring family who always wanted the best for him throughout all of his ups and downs in life. He also loved the outdoors, Michigan Wolverines, his jeep, and his pitbull, sweet Zakari "Roo". Jason and Roo had a very deep and special connection.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his parents, Sue (Randy) Gilliam, Gallipolis, Ohio and Gary (Connie) Jones, Albany, Ohio; daughters, Kaylee and Kelsey Jones, both of Gallipolis, Ohio; grandson, Asher Masters; brother and sisters, Justin (Melody) Jones, Laurinburg, North Carolina, Ginger (Ronnie) Denney, Gallipolis, Ohio and Brandy (Tim) Cass, Abilene, Texas. Also missing Jason are grandmothers Edith Adkins (Nana), Gallipolis, Ohio and Pauline Curry, Canal Fulton, Ohio; aunts: Tonya (Jeff) Fraley, Oak Hill, Ohio, Paula (William) Gerber, Canal Fulton, Ohio and Elaine Willard, Gallipolis, Ohio; nieces: Jennifer Jones, Gracie Denney, Elainie Cass and Julia (D.J.) Briscoe; nephew, Jordan (Talyssa) Pepper and a host of cousins and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.
Jason was welcomed into heaven by his grandfathers, H. Leroy Adkins and Paul V Jones.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio, with Pastor Joe Bowers officiate. Entombment will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Gallipolis. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home Friday,
12:00-1:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Denney, Justin Jones, Anthony Petty II, Brandon Harrison, Jeff Fraley, and Charles Masters IV.
Although Jason was a strong and resilient man, his courageous battle with addiction ultimately overcame him. For many years, he fought and longed for sobriety. The addiction won - but he is now at peace.
Jason, find Papaw and some fishing poles and fly high. We will miss you and think about you every day. Love, Mom, Kaylee and Kelsey
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to Asher's college savings account at Ohio Valley Bank in care of Mother, Kaylee Jones.
