Jason Matyi

Jason Thomas Matyi passed away on February 26th, 2025, at the age of 52. He was born on June 7th, 1972, in West Point, Utah and was the third of four children born to Thomas John and Melva Joy Matyi. As a young adult, Jason served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the West Indies (Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana). He later graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and most recently worked as a senior Server Administrator for Salt Lake County.
Jason was a loving father, son, brother, and friend to many. He was generous and cared deeply about others, especially his children. His demeanor was often quiet, thoughtful, and reserved, though he was remarkably funny, saying just what was needed to break the ice or lift spirits. He was also incredibly intelligent and a true tour de force when playing board games.
He was undoubtedly an artistic soul. He studied classical guitar as a teenager and later at Weber State University, though he effortlessly branched out to many other styles and was in a variety of musical groups. It was always a treat to hear him play and in doing so, he became a musical inspiration to several family members. Jason also had an affinity for the outdoors, whether it was camping with his family or searching for elusive monster trout throughout the western United States. Likewise, he enjoyed playing sports including baseball as a child, later basketball (after a growth spurt), and finally swinging golf clubs on the fairway.
Jason will be deeply missed. He is survived by his daughter Zoe (Dawson) Allen and son Jonas Matyi, fiancé Jana Kingsley, parents Thomas and Melva Matyi, sister Michelle (Lance) Heaton, and brother Joshua (Jennifer) Matyi. He was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher (Carolyn) Matyi.
