Jason Robert Phoenix, 49, passed away on December 4, 2024, at Accession Via Christi St Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on September 16, 1975 to Barbara E. (Faurot) and James L. "Jim" Phoenix in Ulysses, Kansas. Jason spent his childhood days on Murphy Street in Sublette, Kansas, riding his bike, building forts, and playing on the trampoline with his friends.
A graduate of Sublette High School, class of 1994, Jason was known for his leadership and easy-going personality. He served as senior class president and was honored as basketball homecoming king. Jason's love for sports was evident throughout his life-whether playing high school basketball or cheering on his beloved Kansas Jayhawks, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Penguins.
Jason had a strong love for both sports and gardening. In recent years, he found peace and comfort in taking care of his garden and greenhouse, growing vegetables, and plants. He carefully nurtured the soil and enjoyed the rewards of his hard work. Jason loved sharing his harvest with family and friends. He was also a man of deep faith in God and strong patriotism, with a great love for his country. He was never afraid to share his honest opinions about politics and current events, often sparking interesting conversations.
One of Jason's closest relationships was with his grandmother, Ida Jo. To him, she wasn't just a grandmother but also his best friend. They spent many hours together watching football bowl games and making small bets on horse races. These moments created a special bond that will always be remembered by those who knew them. Jason also had a lot of love for his mother, brother, and extended family. He shared many happy memories with them, and they were always there for each other. His family meant the world to him, and he cherished the time they spent together.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara Phoenix of Sublette, KS; brother, Matt Phoenix of Borger, TX; cherished friend, Dottie Westphall of Sublette, KS; aunts, Pam Faurot of Wichita Falls, TX, Shirley Phoenix of Sublette, and Marsha Collins and husband Kenneth of Tahlequah, OK; uncle, Larry and Terry Phoenix of Sublette, KS; and many beloved cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jim Phoenix; maternal grandparents, Bob & Ida Jo Faurot; paternal grandmother, Lillian Phoenix; aunts, Darlene Ash, and Ruth Phoenix; and uncles, Bobby Faurot, Bill Phoenix, and John Phoenix.
No viewing as cremation has taken place.
Memorial service will be at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, December, 7, 2024 at the Sublette United Methodist Church with Pastor Kyle Woodrow officiating.
Suggested memorial contributions are to the Jason Phoenix memorial fund. Please make checks payable to Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 1200, Sublette, KS 67877. Condolences may be left online at WeeksFamilyFuneralHome.com
