Roberta Trahern

Roberta Louise (Eisele) Trahern, 84, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.
She was born on July 6, 1940, in Lawrence, Kansas, to Mary Louise (Lucas) and Robert Melchoir Eisele. In 1946, the family moved from Eudora to Sublette, Kansas, where Roberta spent her formative years on the family farm-some of her fondest memories.
She began her education at Ivanhoe Country School, attending through the fourth grade. She and her brother often rode his Cushman motor scooter the two miles to school-sometimes getting into a bit of mischief, but always having fun.
Roberta continued her education at Sublette Elementary School, graduated from Sublette High School, and later attended Central Business College in Denver, Colorado.
Roberta first worked at the Haskell County Extension Office for a couple of years before stepping away to raise her family. She later returned to the office and stayed for another eight years. Eventually, she took a job with Enron, where she worked for 17 years. After that chapter, Roberta, along with her son and daughter, poured their energy into building and running the Stockade Travel Plaza in Sublette - a true family business that they operated together for 17 years. Roberta deeply valued the time working alongside her children in their shared family business.
Roberta was known for her generous spirit and hardworking nature. Her family affectionately referred to her as their go-to for "911 Grandma calls." She loved to cook, garden, and crochet, and often said, "Busy hands are happy hands." She also enjoyed participating in the Sublette Farmers Market during the summer, offering baked goods and fresh vegetables.
Roberta is survived by her children: Colleen Ardery of Manhattan, KS, and Robert "Tyle" Trahern of Sublette, KS; granddaughter, Aja Banner and her husband Bo, of Manhattan, KS; four great-grandchildren; brother, Hayward Eisele and his wife Shor of Montrose, CO; and four nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Lou Eisele.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date at Haskell County Cemetery. Weeks Family Funeral Home and Crematory of Sublette, Kansas are in charge of arrangements.
