Obituary of Jason Scott "JP" Provstgaard

January 15, 1978 – March 14, 2026
Jason Scott Provstgaard, known to many as "JP," passed away on March 14, 2026, at
the age of 48. His life was one of resilience, strength, and deep, often quiet
compassion.
Jason's early years were marked by hardship and trauma, challenges that shaped him
but never defined him. Despite the obstacles he faced, he persevered and went on to
earn his high school diploma, a testament to his determination and inner strength.
Though his journey included difficult seasons, including time spent in prison, Jason's life
is best remembered as one of redemption, growth, and perseverance.
Jason was the kind of man who would take a hit for someone else without hesitation. He
would give you the shirt off his back and stop to help a stranger in need. Beneath his
tough exterior-his deep voice, tattooed arms, and commanding presence-was a
deeply kind and sensitive soul. He carried compassion quietly, often feeling deeply for
others without ever seeking recognition.
He was a proud and highly skilled heavy equipment operating engineer and worked for
B. Jackson Construction where achieved a full-circle moment in his final role as a
foreman supervisor in the same vicinity he once sat behind bars. He was capable of
operating machinery as large as a house with precision and care. Over his 20-year
career, his work helped shape the valley, including digging ponds, constructing walls,
bridges, and vital infrastructure throughout the region.
Jason found joy in life's simple and meaningful moments. He loved telling jokes,
listening to rock music and more recently, country music. He was an avid fisherman who
could catch fish like nobody else. He cherished time with his family, especially traveling
to Washington to see his grandchildren. He was also a talented artist, expressing
himself through tattoo work and music, including playing the guitar. At home, Jason's
heart was fullest with his animals and gazing long at the mountain sunrises and
sunsets. He loved throwing the ball for his dogs-Sunny, Skye, and Stella-and had a
special soft spot for his cats, Lazarus and Milo.
Jason also found freedom on the open road, where he loved riding his motorcycle. It
was one of the places he felt most at peace-wind at his back, music in his soul, and
the world wide open ahead of him. It is comforting to imagine him riding free again.
Jason placed his faith in Jesus Christ and attended The Rock Church in Draper, Utah.
His faith in Jesus was something he shared with family and friends. He prayed often
while looking at the Wasatch mountains and enormous sky in his backyard. He
attributed the blessings in his life to God and shared how Jesus met him in his darkest
times in his life to show him grace.

He is survived by his loving wife, Angela Marie Provstgaard; his children, Michael
Coltrin, Malaika Matison, and Riley J. Provstgaard; his stepchildren, Tristan Street and
Isaiah Street; his mother, Dana Lee Runnells; and his stepmother, Wendy Byrd Pay; his
siblings, Michael Byrd, Brandi Byrd, Tyler Jorgensen, Matthew Barlow, and Chanell
Arriaga (Tony), his three beloved grandchildren, Kaija, Xavia, and Isaiah and many
other family and friends that he loved like family.
He was preceded in death by his dear brother, Derik Lee Provstgaard and his father,
Scott Robert Provstgaard.
Jason lived a life with struggles and yet he found joy in spending time with his family,
whom he dearly loved. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, hard work, and
compassion and will be remembered as a man who endured, rebuilt, and loved deeply.
Jason faced private battles with mental health that were often unseen by others. His
passing is a heartbreaking reminder of how real and heavy those struggles can be. In

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 10 AM at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 So 1700 W., Bluffdale, Utah 84065. A viewing will be held 1 hour prior. Burial will follow the services.
