Jay Martin Alterman, born in Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, in
Chesapeake, VA, at the age of 74.
Jay was a kind and unassuming man. He dedicated his professional life to the textile engineering industry, where he applied his talents and intellect with great diligence. Jay held a Master's Degree in Textile Engineering, a testament to his commitment to excellence in his field.
Jay had a profound love for children and the outdoors. He found great joy in attending his children's athletic events and sharing in the excitement of their accomplishments. He was most often found working in the garden, appreciating the beauty of nature.
Beyond his career, Jay was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Alterman and Irene Segal. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 39 years, Caroline McAlpine Alterman. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared joy. He was a loving stepfather of two children, daughter Sarah Berry (Walter) of Yorktown, VA, and son Pierce Hubbard (Stacey) of Flemington, NJ. Jay's legacy continues through his three treasured grandchildren, Braden, Alicia, and Rosalie. Jay was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ira and Alan Alterman; he is survived by three nieces and one nephew.
A memorial service to celebrate Jay's life will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 2 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home Chesapeake, located at 929 S. Battlefield Blvd.,
