Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Ipswich on May 6, 2024.
Jay William Chipman lived a wonderfully abundant life from January 4, 1969 until May 1, 2024 when a catastrophic brain bleed took him and left his family heartbroken.
Jay was a kind and caring guy who loved watching any of the New England sports teams on TV. Jay was thrilled when he could go see his favorite Red Sox, Mookie Betts, in person at Fenway Park, but he was even more devoted to cheering on his beloved Ipswich Tiger football team.
A lifelong Ipswich resident, Jay enjoyed many activities that connected him to his community: a weekly trip to the Library to eagerly see the books chosen for him to read; dinner at the Pub for a delicious cheeseburger and onion rings; indulging in a classic iced coffee from Dunks; and staying fit working out at the YMCA multiple times a week.
Jay also enjoyed going to musicals at the North Shore Music Theater, but he was equally happy watching any of the Harry Potter movies again... and again... and again....
Some of Jay's most treasured time was spent doing activities with his friends at Coastal Connections in Amesbury where he worked since graduation in 1991. He thrived in this environment, and loved the people there as much as they loved him. Jay was quick to make friends at Coastal and was always ready to entertain his pals with one of his impromptu performances.
Jay grew up enjoying boat outings to Steep Hill Beach, Plum Island, and the sand bar off Crane's; trips to the family ski house in Jackson, NH; and traveling to see family and friends across the country. No matter where he was, he was happiest with those he loved, and he brought joy to any space he was in.
Jay was predeceased by his father, William "Pete" Chipman, and survived by his mother, Patricia A. Chipman. He is also survived by his aunts, Carol Reisen-Morse and her husband, Jeff; and Jane Reisen Grimaldi and her husband, Wayne; as well as his cousins: Lisa & Arthur Rogers, Laurie & Jeff Simmons, Jeff Lachance, Michael Lachance, Stephen & Cheryl Lachance, and Chris Lachance, and their extended families. He is also predeceased by his aunt, Suzanne Chipman.
Also mourning the loss of Jay are his "bonus" families: Pete & Dottie Donaher; Kathleen & Ted Spinale and their sons, Joseph, Peter & Theo; Peter "Joey/Benny" & Susan Donaher and their sons, Connor & Keegan; plus Steve and Linda McDavitt and Flora Diamond.
His Memorial Service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 6 High Street in Ipswich on Thursday, May 9th at 11AM. Family and friends are invited to attend. An hour of visitation prior from 10AM to 11AM. Interment will take place at Highland Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Rd. Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions in Jay's name to: Coastal Connections, 4 Noel Street, Amesbury, MA 01913; or Friends of the Ipswich Library, 25 North Main Street,
