Jay Kallman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home - Belleville on Feb. 24, 2026.
THE SERVICE WILL LIVESTREAMED ON THE FUNERAL HOME'S FACEBOOK PAGE- https://www.facebook.com/bachelorsurber

Jay D. Kallman was born November 1, 1956 to Carl A. and Marian (Johnson) Kallman in Concordia, Kansas and passed away February 23, 2026 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 69.

Jay grew up in Scandia, Kansas graduating from Scandia High School in 1974. He always had fond memories of growing up in Scandia, even living with his brother Paul his senior year after his parents moved to Belleville, so he could graduate in Scandia.

Jay moved to Belleville following graduation and worked for his parents business, Kallman's Travel Center as a "jack of all trades" working on RV's and used cars for 17 years. Jay later became an insurance agent working for Farm Bureau and American Family Insurance before going independent as Kallman Insurance Services. This profession continued 30+ years until his death.

On July 30, 1977, Jay married Lynell Hudson and to this union was born three daughters, Micole, Ashley, and Erin Jaye.

Jay was a loving father and grandfather. He was a natural born teacher and would spend any opportunity to teach his daughters a new skill. Before Jay's surgery he was found teaching his grandson Hank how to run the lawnmower.

Jay was an active member of his community serving in many volunteer positions. He was a faithful member of the Belleville First United Methodist church serving as its treasurer for over 10 years. He served as Chairman of the Church People Concerned Board providing executive function on the Golden Belle Haven Senior Center and other community activities. Jay was a Silver Haired Legislator spending many days in Topeka lobbying for programs and funding to benefit the aging population.

Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Marian Kallman, daughter, Micole Anderson, sister and brother-in-law Carla and Chris Thoman and sister-in-law, Sheryl Grigsby.

Jay will be remembered by his wife of 48 years, Lynell Kallman of Belleville, KS, daughters, Ashley Kallman (Clay Close) of New Jersey, Erin Kallman (Mitch Pounds) of Belleville, KS, brother Paul Kallman of Scandia, KS, grandchildren, Justice and Kennedy Anderson, Hank and Avree Cossaart and great-grandchildren Ryker and Khai Anderson, other relatives and many friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 10:30am at the First United Methodist Church with celebrant Waylon Sheetz officiating. Inurnment will follow at Ida Cemetery, rural Munden, Kansas.

Friends may sign the register book Monday, March 2, 2026 from 1:00pm - 7:00pm with the family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00pm at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home 1322 19th St, Belleville, KS.

A luncheon at Kallman Office Suites, 1806 M St, Belleville, KS will take place after the committal service at the cemetery.

Yesterday

Sorry for your loss. I worked with Jay for several years while he was at Farm Bureau. He always made a point to make sure to get me kolache during the county fair.
