Jay Neely Obituary
Jay Luther Neely, 82, of Short Gap, died Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at his home.
Born November 17, 1939 in Moundsville, he was the son of the late Christopher and Sada (Wayson) Neely.
He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred Neely; siblings, Christina Snyder, Patricia Metz, and George Neely; and step-daughter, Deborah Drenning.
Mr. Neely was a veteran, having served in the US Marie Corps.
He had worked as a painter in the Washington, DC area, where he painted many government buildings.
Jay enjoyed his time spent fishing.
Survivors include his step-daughters, Regena Miller, and Angela Williams; 6 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great grandchildren; and 7 step-great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at Omega-Alpha Cemetery, Knobley Road, Short Gap, on Saturday at 1:00 PM, with Marvin Funkhouser, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Neely's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the American Cancer Society, 1050 E Industrial Blvd #3, Cumberland, MD 21502.
The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, is assisting the family with arrangements.
