Jay Tice Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Durfee Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Fair Haven on Dec. 16, 2025.
Born on August 6, 1946, Jay Louis Tice Sr passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, surrounded by his family and close friend. From Oxford, New Jersey, during his younger years, he loved hunting, fishing, baseball and working on the family farm. He showed success in those fields by winning the youth archery championship of New Jersey in 1961, WCM baseball playoff championship of 1958, and receiving his boating captains license in 1990. He also was a Boy Scout and an altar boy at church every Sunday for 12 years. Jay had 56.5 years as a freemason, belonging to Warren Lodge #13 in Oxford, NJ. He loved going to state fairs to observe the livestock and flowers. Jay had a green thumb and loved gardening. He ran his fishing boat on Lake Ontario "Reelin Feelin" for regular charters and also a charity event for kids. Hunting, he did most in New Jersey and Vermont for a Whitetail deer. He enjoyed attending the Tinmouth game supper for his love of wild game. He started working as a carpenter after he was honorably discharged as Corporal from the Marine Corps in 1971. His love for carpentry, turned into a passion by making coffee & end tables, lamps & bowls on the lathe, desks, and many more beautiful pieces. We can't forget he was a Harley and Ford man, with the love for drag racing and motors. A special place he liked to be was Saratoga Horse Racing Track, Yankee Stadium, and his home he built in 1986. He also enjoyed working with his Kubota tractor on the property in Castleton, VT maintaining its beauty. He held his dogs very close to his heart for many years, mostly all being golden retrievers. An all time favorite for him was his shoo fly pie and anything sweet especially his dark chocolate Hershey bars, the Dinosaur BBQ in NY, and his coffee. Jay was a great father & friend always speaking his mind and staying true to his family. He is predeceased by his parents, Dorothy & Howard Tice and his brother Ralph Tice. In loving memory he leaves behind Fran Tice, his daughter Chelsea and her husband Chris with their two children, Gray & Violet, and his son & best friend Jay Jr "Lil Jay" and his girlfriend Kylie that helped care for him. He will be buried in Oxford, New Jersey next to his family, close his hometown. Jay will be greatly missed, not so much by the deer
