Jayson "Jay" Bastarache

Jayson "Jay" Bastarache, age 36, of Medway, MA, born January 30, 1988 in New Brunswick, Canada left us suddenly on January 22, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with Schizophrenia.
Beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, son-in-law, uncle, and friend, his loss is mourned by many.
Jay was predeceased by his yellow lab Lucky. His grandmother Jeannette Doiron, and his uncle Eddie Doiron.
He is survived by his parents Marie and Joseph Bastarache and his yellow lab Cesar, of Medway, MA; his brother Jake Bastarache and his wife Brittney, and their two sons, Riley and Rory of Worcester, MA; his Pépère Auguste Doiron, his Mémère Jeanette Bastarache and Pépère Thomas Bastarache of New Brunswick, Canada; and his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Born and raised in New Brunswick, Canada, Jay found his love for hockey at a young age. He spent much of his time in and out of rinks and became an advent hockey player. He continued his passion for sports once moving to the states where he played hockey and football for Medway and Holliston High school, in addition to playing club hockey for the Worcester Crusaders. Jay's personality shined through his love for sports and the friendships he made. Jay rose to be a captain of the Medway varsity hockey team, where he showcased his leadership, all the while getting to play alongside his younger brother Jake. He was admired by coaches and teammates alike, leaving a lasting impression on everyone that had the privilege to play with and coach him.
Jay loved spending time with his dog Cesar. He found joy in taking him on walks and car rides while listening to his favorite music. He loved animals, fishing, and being outside, but he also had an artistic side too. He was smart and eager to learn and managed to keep busy while working construction much of his adult life. He took pride in work because he loved helping others and valued his independence, but above all else he loved spending time with his Family. His compassion and kind heart touched everyone that knew him.
Jay lived with Schizophrenia most of his life and he had learned how to hide his true emotional pain and challenges very well. In spite of him having his own suffering he always put others first and was always there to give a helping hand. There is some peace in knowing he no longer has to suffer, but our world will forever be shattered.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, February 2 from 2 - 5 p.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street in Medway followed by a prayer service at 5 p.m. Following the services in the funeral home, family and friends are invited to attend a reception at Restaurant 45, 45 Milford Street in Medway.
