J. B. Mullin, known to friends and family as Jay, passed away on November 26, 2023, at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. Born on September 25, 1930, in Lela, Texas, his life journey of 93 years was marked by strength, adventure, and goodwill. Son of James Ben Mullin and Artie Bulah Horn (later Carr, he was the 9th of 10 children, all of whom preceded him in death.
Jay was known for his honesty, intelligence, and strength - qualities that served him well during his time in the Navy. He brought to his military service the same commitment and dedication that would characterize his life. He took immense pride in his work, often working beyond hours to ensure every job was completed to perfection. His hands, always busy fixing something or crafting beautiful objects from wood, were a testament to his hardworking spirit and handy nature.
On September 27, 1963, Jay married his beloved wife, Doris, and embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship. Their bond was the foundation of their beautiful extended family. He is survived by his wife; daughters and their spouses - Sandy and Mike Theel, Linda Barry and Pam Groom, and Diana and Douglas Taylor. Jay's love extended well beyond his immediate family including five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished dearly.
Jay possessed an mischievous sense of humor that often ensured that his family gatherings were filled with laughter. His love of reading and watching westerns brought him joy throughout his life. His passion for woodworking provided an outlet for his creativity and ingenuity. The furniture pieces he made stand as testimony to his woodworking skills, each bearing the mark of his artistry and effort.
In conclusion, we remember J.B. Mullin, our beloved daddy, grandpa, and uncle, as a man whose light shone brightly in everything he undertook, touching us all in countless ways. As we grieve his passing, we also celebrate the life he lived, honoring his legacy through memories of his love and endless humor. Although he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who were privileged enough to know him.
