Coats, NC: Mrs. Jean Gray Nunnery Danenburg, age 93, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Harnett Woods in Erwin, NC, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM-Friday, September 19, 2025 at Coats Baptist Church in Coats, NC. Dr. Richard Shepherd and Rev. Chris Wroten will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier, NC.
Mrs. Danenburg was born on October 8, 1931, in Cumberland County, NC to the late Lacy Wellington and Minnie Strickland Nunnery. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Julian Everette Danenburg, siblings, Mildred Bowden, Eunice Mariner, Jewel James, Dorothy Nunnery, Lacy Nunnery, Jr., James W. Nunnery, Joanne Parker, and Brenda Sue Priest, sisters-in-law, Florence Kurtz, and Dorothy Lashley Beck. At the age of 14, Jean accepted Christ at a revival, led by the late Dr. Charles Howard. Jean worked at Campbell College through the winter months, so she could work on the family farm. She later ran the printing press at Service Enterprises for Campbell University. She worked hard on the farm in tobacco, the garden, and cooking for her family and friends. She made sure her family was active in church, and she was a faithful member of Pleasant Memory Baptist Church, and later Coats Baptist Church.
Surviving include her children, Marshall Danenburg, and wife, Nita, Allen Danenburg, and wife, Diana, Jenny Shearin and husband, Lee, and Julia Butler and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Scott Camarotti, Tessa Altman and husband, Scott, Brad Butler and wife Sarah, Brett Butler and wife, Lindsay, and Brandon Butler, and wife, Victoria; step-grandchildren, Jeffrey Shearin and wife, Jen, Allison Babyak and husband, Joey, Amanda Helms and husband, David; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Cameron Camarotti, Korra and Kinsey Altman, James, Eli, Rette, Natalee, Hannah, and Luke Butler; eight step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30PM-1:45PM, Friday, September 19, 2025 at Coats Baptist Church in Coats, NC, and other times at the home of Jenny and Lee Shearin 1144 Old Stage Road North, Coats, NC 27521.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coats Baptist Church PO Box 297, Coats, NC 27521.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the caregivers on the 100 hall at Harnett Wood Nursing and Rehab Center in Erwin, for their loving care shown to Mrs. Danenburg.
