Jean Guy Dumas, of Farmington and formerly of Forestville, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025, at John Dempsey Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was 89 years old.
Jean Guy was the devoted husband of the late Gisele (Begin) Dumas. Born on March 31, 1936, in St. Ludger, Quebec, he was one of twelve children of the late Albert and Alice (Gilbert) Dumas. He carried his strong work ethic and pride in all he did throughout his life. He spent over 20 years at Morin Corp. as a drafter and production supervisor, retiring in 2001. Before that, he worked at Spector Freight System as a warehouse specialist.
A man of deep faith, Jean Guy was a lifelong Roman Catholic whose beliefs were a guiding light through life's challenges. He was an active member of St. Ann's Church, where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was proudly involved in the Army of Mary and the Knights of Columbus, Palos Council 35 in Bristol.
Jean Guy had a lifelong passion for hockey-he played, coached, and refereed the sport, and his dedication earned him recognition from the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame. A loyal Montreal Canadiens fan, he could often be found enjoying any hockey game on TV. He also loved a good card game and racked up countless cribbage wins and championships over the years. Puzzles and singing were among his favorite pastimes, right up until the end. And let's not forget his legendary sweet tooth-he never passed up a treat, especially if it involved chocolate or ice cream!
He leaves behind his loving daughter, Vicky Frye, and her husband Brian of Bristol, along with his cherished grandchildren, Brandon and Gabriella, who brought him endless joy and pride. Jean Guy is also survived by his brother, Henri Paulo, many brothers- and sisters-in-law, and a large extended family of nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Ann Church, 215 West Street, Bristol. Jean Guy will be laid to rest beside his beloved Gisele at St. Joseph Cemetery, 522 Terryville Ave. Calling hours will be held that morning from 8:00 to 10:00 AM at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave.,
Bristol, CT 06010.
Jean Guy's legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
