Jean B. Fields, 93, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 21 at her residence in North Canton, Ohio, after a brief illness. Jean had been a long-time resident of Conneaut, Ohio since marrying David Fields and moving from New Brighton, PA in 1954. Jean's degree in elementary school teaching from Indiana State Teachers College (Kappa Delta Phi honor society) served her well through the years in raising eight children.
Jean smiled pleasantly through literally hundreds of school plays, concerts, Christmas pageants and other events even though there was a never-ending pile of laundry at home. Her scratch cooking, cookouts and Sunday dinners were the stuff of legends. Jean taught her children to serve the community by volunteering at schools, the public library, Food Bank, Thrift Shop and at church and was always busy giving a helping hand to others, locally, nationally, and internationally. She was on the Conneaut Public Library board that envisioned and built the new Library building for the community, and the Secretary until December 2024. Very few crossword puzzles or mystery programs could baffle her keen intelligence.
Those who knew Jean were encouraged by her strong faith in Jesus Christ. Jean had been an active member of New Leaf United Methodist Church and is survived in death by children Dr. David III (Ana), Kathlynn Tuttle (Jeff), Laura Chapman (Don), Christopher (Trish), Bryan (Andrea), Marideth Nagy (Jim), Noelle Lydic (Todd); 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband David II and son Andrew.
A memorial service will be held at New Leaf United Methodist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to www.give.cru.org/0512470

Grandma Jean was a special lady. I'm relatively new to the family (4 years married to Dan, one of her grandchildren) and I live in Texas, so I only interacted with her a few times. Still, I could tell she was whip-smart, generous, and incredibly interesting. She would send us cards with just a single sentence, that made me feel seen and loved. And even though my two children were her umpteenth great-grandchildren, she still took the time to reach out and make them part of her life. I'm so sad I won't get the chance to know her better. Thankfully she created a whole tribe of people who carry on her legacy. I will miss having her in our lives.

I have been involved with Jean over 10 years through NLUMC. A truly selfless, amazing, intelligent woman. A helping, giving, serving heart....always. Still attending Bible studies and learning. She went out of her way to know me personally and honor me with her thoughts on situations in our church and community. We have lost a precious "Mother Teresa." I will miss her so. Praise God that he let us have her for such a long, full life. She will remain in my memory as a mentor and friend. Karen Kennedy FL
