Obituary published on Legacy.com by McBride-Foley Funeral Home - Paulsboro on Jul. 27, 2023.
Jean Glocker (nee Shoemaker) was born May 27, 1929 in
Woodbury, New Jersey. Having grown up alongside the Shoemaker family farm, she considered herself a farm girl in her childhood years. She graduated from Paulsboro High School in 1946. During her sophomore year she met her high school sweetheart, Robert "Rib" whom she waited to return from WWII and they married the following year. Jean passed away June 25th, in her home that Rib built in 1950 - right next door to where she grew up, on the day that would have been Rib's 96th birthday. Her family thinks of it as Rib calling her home to celebrate his birthday with him and their wedding anniversary on June 28th.
Jean learned to play the piano at a very young age on the family farm, and continued to play often, entertaining her children as they would all dance the night away in their home. Jean loved to read in her later years and when the Kindle came along she read even more. Jean was an avid Phillies fan, making a few trips to Spring Training in Clearwater over the years. She and Rib attended many baseball card shows and often you would find Jean sorting baseball cards into the wee hours of the night. She and Rib followed their son, Dave, throughout his sporting years at Paulsboro High School - even Arizona State where he played college ball.
Jean's greatest enjoyment and accomplishment was raising her 3 children and attending all of their school and outside activities. But no matter what, she took pride in her family dinners which were always on the table at 5pm. Chocolate cake was her specialty. Christmas was the time of year she lived for, especially Christmas Eve - and the traditions she set will be passed down for many generations to come. When Rib opened Glocker Realty in 1977 she became the bookkeeper for 22 years.
During Jean and Rib's 70 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling throughout all 50 States and touring many National Parks. Milestone anniversaries were spent on an Alaskan cruise and a European tour. They also enjoyed cruising the Caribbean, touring Canada extensively, and parts of Mexico. After her granddaughters were born, she and Rib went along on many of the Hammond family vacations, going to Disney World numerous times and their 5-week cross-country trip - one she spoke of often. Seventeen Summers were spent at their Brigantine shore home with family and grand-dogs - something she looked forward to every year.
Jean was a member of Repaupo United Methodist Church, having attended Sunday school as a child, and later years Sunday worship.
Jean was predeceased by her parents Henry and Susanna Shoemaker, her husband Robert, and her sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Maurice "Jack" Thedford. She is survived by her three children, Robyn Glocker-Hammond (Ralph), Susan Glocker Steiner (Howard) and David "Dave" Glocker (Wendy); Grandchildren, Brittany (Jamie), Katelyn, Kyle (Haleigh), Brad (Ashleigh), Jessica (Sean), Gabrielle "Gabby" (Garrett), and Robert; Great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Remi, Kinsley, Logan, and Emery. She is also survived by her nephew Barry Thedford and wife Anita, and loyal friend Bea White.
