Jean Marion Holzinger, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away on August 22, 2025, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury, VT surrounded by her loving family and the very caring staff and hospice.
She was born on February 21, 1942, to Robert and Marion (Sawyer) and grew up with her two sisters, Pat and Linda. She had a deep commitment to caring for others and after graduating from Woodstock Union High School she attended the Laconia School of Nursing. She worked several years at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH where she met her future husband, Ulrich "Uli" Holzinger. She later became office manager for his insurance agency in White River Jct., VT.
Jean had a passion for the outdoors and cherished her time spent hiking, jogging, bicycling and gardening. When she wasn't outside, you could find her immersed in a mystery novel or tackling a challenging crossword puzzle. She was also an amazing culinary artist.
She lived a very full and vibrant life enjoying her home in the countryside of Hartford, VT with her husband and daughter. Later, she split her time between Punta Gorda, FL during the winter and her favorite place in Shoreham, VT on Lake Champlain.
Having enough of Florida, she moved back to Shoreham full time 25 years ago and has enjoyed the company of ducks, geese, birds and other wildlife, including the neighbors. Most recently she enjoyed a comfortable life with her husband at their residence, Eastview of Middlebury, surrounded by wonderful people.
Jean leaves behind her devoted husband of 62 years, Uli, beloved daughter Heidi, her life-long best friend and cousin, Jane Sawyer, of Shoreham, VT. She is also survived by her two younger sisters, favorite niece and nephew Amy and Rob Audsley, and many friends who will miss her presence tremendously.
There are no calling hours and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Addison County Home, Health and Hospice or the Addison County Humane Society.
