Jean Anne McVicar Mendelsohn, age 79, of Millport NY passed away in her sleep at home on Friday March 28th, 2025.
She was born in Bronxville NY 1945, to Anne Lister McVicar and S. Harrison McVicar, Jr. She was the second daughter of five sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years Richard "Dick" Mendelsohn, daughter Erica Mendelsohn and son-in-law Jonathan Cortright, granddaughters Tressa and Tori Cortright, all of Millport NY. She is also survived by four sisters, Libby Stewart in Charlotte NC, Barbara McVicar in Southbury CT, Jody Ferguson in Pawling NY, and Dianne Orlando in Newtown CT. She had cousins, nieces, and nephews that she adored, residing all over the country, many of whom she visited in the last few years.
She was an avid gardener, master quilter, and an excellent hand bell ringer. She will be missed by many in those communities.
For those friends who knew and loved Jean as much as we did her memorial service has been scheduled. It will be on Saturday June 21st at 11:30 am at the Reformed Church of Bronxville, New York, 180 Pondfield Road, corner of Midland Avenue. There will be a reception following the service at the church, all are welcome. No flowers please but feel free to make a donation to the ALS Association or the American Cancer Society in her honor.
