Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hackman Family Funeral Homes - Hackman Chapel on Jan. 31, 2026.
Jean Mable Mock, age 85 of Sturgis, Michigan, passed away early Saturday morning, January 31, 2026, at her home.

She was born October 27, 1940, in Stroh, Indiana, the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Woodcox) Smith.

Jean resided in Sturgis since 1974, coming from Brighton, Indiana, where she was a graduate and Valedictorian of Brighton High School. She furthered her education at Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville.

On April 26, 1974, she married Stephen S. Mock in LaGrange, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2024.

Jean was involved with Glen Oaks Community College both as a student and later as an educator for more than 30 years, where she taught accounting and management. For many years, she also worked at the Sturgis Foundry.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis and enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking. Her famous tacos will be forever missed. Jean found great joy and was happiest when she was giving her time to others.

She is survived by her son, Donald Church of McComb, Mississippi; granddaughters, Tabitha Church of Three Rivers and Jennifer Henderson of Howe, Indiana; brothers, Roscoe Smith and Richard (Birdenna) Smith; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Stephen Mock; her son, Matthew S. Mock, on January 4, 2022; her brother, Bob Smith; and her sister, Joann Smith.

In honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Jean's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 S. Lakeview Ave., Sturgis. The Revs. Kaleb Yaeger and Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A continued time of fellowship and the sharing of a meal will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorial donations would be appreciated to Help for the Animals of St. Joseph County, 25420 Mintdale Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091.
