Jean M. Omernik, of New London, left her earthly home of 91 years and journeyed peacefully into heaven and into God's loving arms on Monday, April 15, 2024. Jean was born on March 11, 1933 to the late Max and Eleanor (Kloes) Everts in the township of Lebanon on the family farm. She was the sixth of twelve children that were raised on the farm, where hard work and many lessons were taught and shared. On April 8, 1953, she was united in marriage to Merlin Bruette and together they brought five children into this world. On January 4, 1969, Merlin passed away. After many years of raising her children, she found love again and married Ernie Omernik on September 24, 1981 and the two of them have lived a long, happy life together. Over the years, Jean worked at Zwicker Knitting Mill, New London Utilities and Wal-Mart in New London.
Jean is survived by her husband, Ernie; her children, Helen Scheid, Terri (Jim) Konrad, Voni (Hank) Schuh, Barb (Jody) Thiel and Jeff Bruette; grandchildren, Stacey Scheid, Corey (Mandy) Scheid, Chad (Wendy) Konrad, Kristi (Rob) Miller, Ryan (Casey) Konrad, Mitchell (Victoria) Schuh, Kayla (Brent) Peotter, Jordan Schuh, Lance (Harper) Poppy, Eric (Melissa) Poppy, Josh (Alicia) Bruette and Amanda (Sergio) Galindo; great-grandchildren, Trinidad, Nevaeh, Brittany, Bailey, Garrett, Rylee (special friend Nate), Taylor (special friend Dustin), Kylie (special friend Brandon), Rhianna, Raeden, Emma, Cooper, Carson, Addie, Blake, Brooke, Kyra, Sasha, Gavin, Leo and Mila; great-great-granddaughter, Laynie, as well as her siblings, David Everts, Helen (Lois) Everts, Joyce Huss, Pat (Dan) Glocke and special nephew, David Omernik.
Besides her first husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gilbert, Eugene, Robert, Donald, Jack, Richard; sister, Marge Bruette; son-in-law, Randy Scheid and grandson, Little Hank.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Jean will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London with Fr. Don Everts officiating. The visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
