Jean Conner Owen, a loving wife, mother, granny of South Boston, passed away on April 4, 2025 at the age of 81. Born in Halifax County to the late Lacy Matthew Conner and the late Lucille Slate Conner. Jean was married to the late Alfred Simmon Owen for 54 years.
She was a member of Church of God. Jean was known for her commitment to her family and her home, always creating a warm and welcoming space for everyone. A true homemaker, she took pride in her home and loved decorating for the different seasons. Beyond her role as the family matriarch, she worked for Wabash Magnetics as an Inspector until her retirement after many years of dedicated service.
Jean is survived by her beloved children; Frosty Owen of Richmond, David “Dabo” Owen (Ginger) of South Boston and Michelle O. Weddle (Zack) of Clarksville; grandchildren, Kristie Stevens (Mel) of South Boston, Erica Grubbs (Mark) of South Boston, Matthew Owen of Richmond, Chase Weddle (Jobeth) of South Boston and Hunter Weddle (Meredith) of South Boston; great grandchildren, Madison Stevens, Kate and Noah Grubbs, Sarah Rae and Easton Weddle, and Grier and Reese Weddle. Also surviving are her siblings, Joanne C. Wilkerson (Donnie) of South Boston, and Donnie Conner (Eric Smith) of Richmond and one sister-in-law, Pam Conner of Scottsburg. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Butch Conner. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, remembered for her kindness and generosity.
A funeral service will be held on April 14, 2025 at 4:00 P.M. Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating. Burial to follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends, on Sunday, April 13 from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at her home.
