Jean Lynch (Elliott) Rodriguez, 82, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024. Jean was born on June 4, 1941, in Missoula, Montana and spent most of her childhood in the Seattle, Washington area. Her family moved to New Orleans, LA during her high school years. She moved to Charlotte, NC in 1973, where she raised her three children and remained until her death.
After coming to Charlotte, Jean took a part-time position in the jewelry department at Sears where she met her best friend of 47 years, Jane McNairy. When her kids reached high school, she decided to take classes in accounting and was employed for several years by McGladrey, Henderson and Pullen, CPAs. Recognizing the opportunities in the emerging mobile communications industry, she joined Metro Mobile (now Verizon Wireless) where she advanced to management until she retired.
After retirement, Jean loved to spend time painting things she loved – Davis and Mary Grace, the family dogs, and favorite photos from her many travels. Jean was a voracious reader and especially loved books about history. And Jean loved to garden – she took pleasure sharing new plants she started with cuttings. Many of her friends can look out into their gardens and find plants or flowers from Jean. She had a world map in her den covered with thumb tacks marking all the places she had visited. During her travels she enjoyed any kind of adventure; a planned close encounter with grizzly bears and zip lining in Alaska, rafting down the Chattooga and Colorado Rivers, horseback riding through Yellowstone, and taking cooking classes in Italy. What she loved most of all was being with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Herbert Elliott, and Clara Mae (Lynch) Elliott and sister, Leslie Elliott. Jean is survived by her children, Kimberly Jean Rodriguez, Laura Lee-Rodriguez Blaylock (spouse Mark Blaylock), Robert Phillip Rodriguez, Jr (spouse Stephanie Rodriguez) and grandchildren Davis Elliott Rodriguez and Mary Grace Louise Rodriguez. Her surviving siblings are Gerry Elliott Lloyd, Margaret Elliott Mobbs, Michael Elliott and Lee Elliott.
Funeral services will be on Friday, March 1st at Saint Gabriel's Catholic Church 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC.
The visitation will be at 10:00am, followed by the funeral mass at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project, The Humane Society or Bee City, USA.
