Jean Harrell Rudy

Our Nanny and Mom, Jean Harrell Rudy, passed away surrounded by the love of her family and God, December 20, 2025 at the young age of 93.
Jean was born Betty Jean Harrell in Nansemond County, VA on September 7, 1932 to Jual Marie and William Arthur Harrell.
She grew up in Norfolk, VA where she met her life long best friends, Carole (Sugie) Alderman and Sibyl Merkle and graduated from Maury High School. Everyone who knew her, can tell you that her passion in life, besides her family, was dance. She performed on Norfolk, VA's first television program. She owned and operated Jean Rudy's School of Dance for many years, before combining with Golden Slippers and instructing and performing well into her later years. We are a family of musicians and dancers because of her passion and influence. But, everyone knows, her (enormous) family, that is not limited to those who share her blood, was the center of her existence. She loved everyone she ever met with kindness, care and compassion.
There has never lived a more genuinely loving woman and those that have had the pleasure of meeting her would all tell you the same.
Those welcoming her to heaven include her Mother Jual (Two Mom), Father William (Poppy Boy), Husband Paul Rudy, Son Daniel, Daughter Predy and many friends she has had along her journey on earth.
She will be dearly missed by children Chip (Eliana), Jean Arthur (Steven), Becki (Jimmie), Juli, Billy (Dasha), Susan (John), Paula (John), and Marie (Ed); 26 Grand Children; 26 Great Grand Children; 5 great-great grandchildren; and many friends made throughout her 93 years we were blessed to have her.
A viewing will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home December 29 from 6:00-8:00 pm (1485 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464). A service will be held at Saint Francis Episcopal Church on December 30 at 1:00 pm (509 S Rosemont Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23452). Please send flowers to Hollomon-Brown.
