Susan Bell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory - Kempsville Chapel on Mar. 2, 2026.
Susan was born the last child & only girl born to Edna Barlow Myers & CWO-4 United States Navy Russell E Myers in Bremerhaven, Germany.

Susan became an author at an older age she published her 1st book, her memoir "An Ordinary Girl", that she had been working on for years. Her 2nd book, "Pieces of My Heart", Poems and thoughts dedicated to her grandmother Florence Kelly Myers. Her 3rd book is, "Teatime with Nana". She is currently working on a cookbook. They sell on Amazon under Susan R Bell

Susan was a kind and loving spirit to everyone she ever met or touched or helped throughout her lifetime. She was a true child of God and lover of people, animals & nature. Her true love was her beloved husband and family and adored all the time she got to spent with them. She loved to bake and always baked cakes for family birthdays or events, sometimes several. Christmastime she had the table full of her specialties that everyone enjoyed. She adored her two adult children and was very proud of them becoming loving human beings and all they had accomplished and her 5 grandchildren she was so proud of and loved dearly. She lite up a room and was one who made change happen. She was a lover of God's nature. She became a gardener of plants and flowers and loved and appreciated the beauty of nature. She was a loving and caring child, sister, daughter, daughter-in-law, mother, nana, mother-in-law & friend, & devoted and loving wife and a gardener of hearts. She had God's light in her, that others wanted to be close to her. It wasn't unusual for her to do random acts of kindness to those she didn't know & those she did know. She lovingly helped care of her ailing brother Robin and Mother Edna and sister and Aunt Charlotte whom she loved very much. Susan otherwise known as "Susie", by family & close friends, she had a great smile and sense of humor. Her presence always left an impression that would light up a room long after she had left. She graduated from Princess Anne high school in 1974 and she graduated from ECPI in computer office technology, earning her Deans list. ODU and TCC she obtained behavioral sciences education through her work with the state of Virginia with the disabled. Later in life in 2014 she became an ordained minister.

She & her husband had a passion for saving and rescuing small dogs that they adopted throughout the many years & gave them a home filled with love. Susan said they saved them.

She unfortunately had to slow down as she battled with head and neck cancer, over the years, but she always had a positive, healing word of support & touch and a mentor to others dealing with cancer even through her own pain. She took the time to reach out to others with cancer to give them help with resources and information and to give hope and inspiration. She had a heart of gold and a smile that would pull you in. Peace and love her motto & hugger of people and trees and nature.

She leaves behind her love of her life & loving husband & caretaker Michael Bell of years, & her beautiful & loving daughter Sarah Leigh Vasel, & husband (Brian) & 2 very loved grandchildren Alder and Allya Rae. Her loving handsome son Jeremy Christian Wolfe & 3 very loved grandchildren, Skyler, (whom is in the Air Force) and Arhianna & Tori. She was so proud of and adored her adult children & loved them with all of her heart & her beloved grandchildren.

She also leaves behind her brothers, Russel (Buddy), Richard (Dicky) & (Barbi) & brother Michael & (Linda), along with many loved nieces and nephews, cousins and family & friends and her hero and love of her life, her beloved husband Michael. Her parents Russ & Edna Myers preceded her in the after- life along with brother Robin & sister Betty Dewberry & sister in law Mary Ann and cousin Dale & Uncle Jesse and Aunt June and her mother in law Lena Anne Bell Foley many other family members who will greet her in heaven along with many of their rescue animals. Love and Peace

We are so saddened to hear of Susie's sudden passing. We send our love and prayers of comfort to her husband and my cousin, Mike, and to her children, grandchildren, family, and many friends.

I was privileged and blessed to get to know Susie through Mike, through our visits and conversations on Facebook - most recently when I traveled to Virginia to visit my Aunt Anne, her mother-in-law, when Susie and Mike invited me to dinner and Mike accompanied me to visit my aunt. I will miss Susie's posts and new books that would surely been coming.

Blessings,
Sherri (Hayhurst) Trudeau
and my son, Andrew
