Jean Shellenberger Obituary
Jean Josey Shellenberger passed away October 15, 2025, just days short of her 99th birthday. Born to Minnie Wells and John Josey in Fort Worth, Texas, she graduated from Amarillo High in 1944 and Baylor University in 1947.
Jean lived an industrious life, starting as Field Director for The Campfire Girls in Denver, Colorado and ending with her ownership of Welcome Sherman Newcomer at the time of her retirement with many interesting stops in between.
While still rearing children, she decided to learn sign language and used that skill to become an interpreter for deaf children at Sherman High, volunteer for Texoma Council for the Deaf, and sign for the deaf community at church.
Always active, she enjoyed snow skiing, line-dancing, and tennis well into her 80's. A people person, she thoroughly enjoyed taking care of those around her whether that was her children, aging parents, nieces and nephews, friends that she knew socially, delivering Meals on Wheels, or friends at First Baptist Church where she attended her entire adult life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill and sister Jerry Hearn. She will be missed by her children Steve Shellenberger (Priscilla), Roger Shellenberger (Phyllis), Susan Noblett (Dennis). Her nieces Lyndra Antonson (Dale), Laurie Hearn (Steve Hall), Kathy George (Tom), Karen Palmer, and by her nephew Jay Hearn (Karen) and their children. Grandchildren Will Shellenberger (Lydia), Caroline Shellenberger, John Shellenberger, Tyler Noblett (Emily), Jessie Reyes (James), and Abby Murillo (Gabriel), and ten great grandchildren.
The family is grateful for the care she received under Home Hospice of Grayson County (thank you Stephanie and Rachel) and her caregivers, especially Annie Ezell.
A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church Sherman at 11:00am, Monday, October 20th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the First Baptist Church Preserving the Legacy Fund.
