It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean May Toth, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife. Born on May 21, 1932, in Passaic, New Jersey, Jean peacefully departed this world on September 29, 2024, at her residence in Boerne, Texas, at the age of 92. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her faith and family. On that day, she was surrounded by three generations of family members as she entered eternal rest, joining her late husband, Joseph Stephen Toth, her sister, Stachia Kloza, and her parents, Joseph and Rose Dul. Jean is survived by her four children, Stephen Toth, Sandra Toth, David Toth, and Christine Toth, along with six grandchildren and five, soon to be six, great-grandchildren.
Jean's life was dedicated to faith and family. From a young age, she developed a passion for the Lord, attending Mass every Sunday with her sister and parents while growing up in Wallington, New Jersey. When not dedicating her time to the church, Jean found joy in dance and music. It was her love for dance that led her to Wallington Dance Hall, where she met her husband, Joe. As a devoted Catholic, she committed herself to Joe on October 10, 1953, at the age of 21. Jean and Joe remained married for 60 years until his passing in 2013.
Jean admirably supported her husband and remained diligently focused on raising her four children while navigating life in the U.S. military, where Joe served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force for 20 years. Move after move, Jean was the steadfast force that unrelentingly held her family together, even as they relocated around the world. Her dedication was woven into every part of her being. She was tough but fair and raised her children to appreciate value and the beauty of hard work. One memorable example of her determination was during the late 1960s when, despite her own fear of water, she ensured all four of her children learned to swim by taking them to the indoor pool at Bolling Airforce Base every day during the summer.
In 1973, Jean packed up her family one more time and moved from Bellevue, Nebraska, to Bricktown, New Jersey. Here she put down roots and remained for nearly 39 years. During this time, Jean's commitment to her family remained unmatched. She worked at the Ocean County Hospital cafeteria and at the Foodtown Grocery Store to help pay for medical school for her youngest daughter, Christine. In 2009, Jean made her final move with her husband from New Jersey to Boerne, Texas, to live with Christine.
Jean was a dynamic woman with a vibrant spirit that touched many aspects of life. Not only was she devoted to her faith and family, but her compassion extended to all creatures, especially her countless beloved cats, who found in her a caring guardian in her later years. Jean was particularly in tune with politics, staying actively engaged in social causes she believed in, always informed and eager to share her insights with anyone who would listen. She also had a unique fascination with
apocalyptic zombies and action thrillers, surprising many with her love for these exciting, unconventional stories that spoke to her adventurous side.
Jean will forever be remembered as a pillar of strength and resilience, with deep-rooted faith and a profound love for her family. In her honor, a Funeral Service will be held at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home on October 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., where friends and family will gather to celebrate her life and legacy. Following the service, a Graveside Service will take place at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., where she will be laid to rest.
Jean May Toth may have left this world, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy of strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her faith and family will leave a lasting impression on future generations. May she rest in peace, and may her memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
