Ron Mills

On Monday September 15, 2025, Louis Ronald "Ron" Mills was reunited with his son and his Lord and savior. Ron was born February 8, 1935, in Rush Springs, Oklahoma and attended White Deer High School where he excelled in all sports, especially football. He went on to attend West Texas State University where he was co-captain of the football team and was named MVP of the 1957 Tangerine Bowl. He was the 95th pick in the 1958 NFL Draft, selected by the San Francisco 49ers.
Following his passion for football and improving the lives of others, Ron went into the coaching profession, which included athletic director and head football coach at Bay City for 13 seasons. Under his leadership from 1978 to 1986, the Blackcats made seven playoff appearances, won two regional championships, made two semifinal appearances, two state final appearances and won the Class 4A state title in 1983. He also coached at Groom, Canyon, San Marcos and Brenham during his career. He had an overall record of 203-115-14 and was inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor in 2012.
Ron had a brilliant and innovative football mind as well as a deep fondness for his players and fellow coaches. He sincerely cared about and enjoyed following their lives and careers. He could name the professional achievements and accomplishments of his former players long after their time on the field had ended.
Although his athletic accolades were profound his true gift was his love for his athletes and his family. He had a positive impact on everyone he met and always pushed for people to do their best and be the best they could be no matter their circumstance.
Ron and his loving wife, Nynvia, are blessed with two sons, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He adored his family and jumped at the chance to tell anyone he could about the achievements of his children and grandchildren, especially their successes in sports. He leaves a legacy of tangible achievement, but most importantly with how he loved and cared for those around him.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, 11:00am, at the Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home, with the chapel opening at 10:00am. The interment will follow the service at the Boerne City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Boerne
