Jean M. Westercamp lived a long vibrant life in Dubuque until the age of 94 when she passed away on February 25, 2025.
Visitation will be from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. Monday, April 14 at Resurrection Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Jean was born December 6, 1930 in Maquoketa, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Ethel (Crotty) Cahill. She graduated from the Visitation Academy in 1948.
On September 15, 1951 she married George "Sonny" Westercamp at St. Columbkille's parish. He preceded her death on January 14, 1989. Jean really enjoyed working by her husband's side building their homes, in the early years they enjoyed hunting together. They never stopped enjoying dancing, whether ballroom or western. For many years they raised and showed Quarter horses and Jean always loved her beagles and Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
Jean worked as a paraprofessional for the Dubuque Community School District and spent many years of service to customers at Armstrong's and Younkers. They remember her telling them of the coupon or deal she could find for them. She left Younkers at the useful and youthful age of 88 only because the store closed.
Jean was always active and you might find her golfing, bowling a couple of games, riding her bike and taking a long walk on Asbury Road, all in the hours that filled her typical day. She loved her backyard flower garden, especially her Asiatic Lillies.
She is survived by two children, Ann (Tim) Rellihan of Asbury and Mark Westercamp of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Brian (Lilia) Rellihan, Kristine Rellihan and Matt (Kristie) Rellihan; five great grandchildren, Caleb and Garren Christiansen and Brooklyn, Grace and Lenyn Rellihan; and her sister Colleen (Don) O'Hea.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ethel Cahill, a brother James Cahill and a daughter, Julie Westercamp.
The family would like to thank Dr. Schrieber and his staff as well as the nurses and the staff of Hospice of Dubuque, Hawkeye Care Center nurses and staff and Deason Mike of Resurrection Parish.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice of Dubuque or any organization or charity that is important to you.
