Jeanette Branch Dowdy Bruner, age 75 of Shellman Bluff passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Heartland Hospice. She was born on August 24, 1949, in Reidsville, Georgia, to John Warner and Mary Beth Kicklighter Branch. Jeanette was a faithful member of Shellman Bluff Baptist Church, where she was active in various ministries and served as treasurer for several years. She could do just about anything, but she had a passion for all things jewelry. She worked for a gemologist for several years while living in Virginia. Jeanette later retired from McIntosh County Board of Education, where she served as secretary for Todd Grant Elementary and Oak Grove Middle School. Her love of people made her perfect for that role—she never met a stranger and could strike up a genuine conversation with just about anyone. Along with her love of jewelry, Jeanette also had a passion for traveling. It didn’t matter where or when—Jeanette just liked to go. She always had a bag packed, and if she didn’t, she had enough clothes and shoes to pack one in a hurry. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Daniel C Dowdy; her grandson, Daniel C Dowdy; along with several other loved ones.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Paul James (Jimmy) Bruner; children, David Cox (Angie) of Crestview, FL, Dane Dowdy (Elaine) of Glennville, GA, and Dennis Dowdy (Amanda) of Jesup, GA; grandchildren, Lacy Harvey (Jared), Synclare Mixon (Michael), Gracie Dowdy, Brice Dowdy, and Adalyn Dowdy; great-grandchildren, Jay Daniel and Waylon Harvey; her sisters, Mary Rogers of Hinesville, GA; Barbara Wilkinson and Pat Tatum (Wayne) of Glennville GA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family will receive friends on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Shellman Bluff Baptist Church, 1282 Sutherland Bluff Dr. NE. Townsend, GA. 31331. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Shellman Bluff Baptist Church with the Reverend Brad Butler officiating. Interment will follow at approximately 3:15pm in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brad Tatum, Bryant Tatum, Clay Rogers, J. Cary Rogers, Craig Wilkinson and Devory Dowdy.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Ladies In Christ Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Shellman Bluff Baptist Church Building Fund, 1282 Sutherland Bluff Dr. NE. Townsend Ga 31331 or Heartland Hospice, 664 Scranton Rd Ste 103 Brunswick Ga 31520
