Jeanette Grohowski, 86, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025 in Memorial Hospital.
Jeanette was born on July 3, 1939 in South Bend to the late Joseph and Lucille (Was) Wegner. On April 20, 1963, she married, Robert Grohowski, he preceded her in death on December 8, 1983. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Rita Kenehan and nephew, Jeffrey Cabral.
Left to cherish the memory of Jeanette are her sons, Gill (Christine) Grohowski, and Gregory Grohowski; grandchildren, Julianne Grohowski, Gabrielle Grohowski, and Gavin Grohowski; brother, Rev. Eugene Wegner, OFM; sisters, Clarice Cabral, Mary Jo Krisor, Teri Halgren, Geri Oppenheim, Gretchen Mehall; cousins, and numerous dearly loved nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her special friend, Dawn Orosz, who was like a daughter to her.
Jeanette worked at AAYS Rental with her cousins for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Hedwig Parish and a member of the Red Hat Society. Jeanette loved to travel. She visited Alaska, Europe and numerous states throughout the US. She had a deep affection for visiting Hawaii, where she enjoyed spending winters with her niece, Sister "CC", Celeste Cabral, at the Benedictine Monastery in Oahu. She also visited with her son and granddaughter in Kauai. She cherished her memories of her daily cold beverages with her nephew, Jeffrey after the end of his volunteer work day at the monastery.
Jeanette had a huge heart and made friends easily with everyone she met. She loved to "Share and Care" and always wanted to "Give a love and a hug". During her recent stay at Grand Emerald Place, she made many new friends that relied on her happily shared smiles and hugs. It warmed her heart to give gifts to people that she knew would bring them joy. Jeanette dedicatedly prayed the rosary with her sisters, a tradition instilled by their mother that they continued daily. She was a very proud "Buscia" of her grandchildren, who she watched grow into their careers and bragged about them any chance she could. Jeanette extended this love to her nieces, nephews and their children, they lovingly referred to her as "Gamma". In recent years, she became a loyal Minnesota Twins fan as she enjoyed watching her great-nephew, Trevor play. She never missed a game. Jeanette will be forever loved and deeply missed, especially during family events and Notre Dame football watch parties.
Visitation will be held from 10:30am-12:30pm on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, Mayflower Rd., South Bend, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 1:00pm at St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
