Jeanette Khattar Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wright & Salmon Mortuary - Peoria on Apr. 2, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jeanette Khattar, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 30, 2025. She was 92 years old.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, to Jamil and Najeebe Romanous, Jeanette later moved to Lebanon, where she met and married the love of her life, Farid Khattar. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to their family.
Jeanette was the heart of our family-a woman of deep faith, boundless generosity, and unwavering love. She dedicated her life to her family, her church, and her community. She found joy in cooking, knitting, taking long walks outdoors, and using her hands and heart to care for those around her. Her home was always open, filled with warmth, delicious meals, and a spirit of hospitality that made everyone feel cherished.
A devout member of St. Sharbel Maronite Church and the Itoo Society, Jeanette was deeply committed to her faith and to serving others. She spent countless hours volunteering, praying for those in need, and embodying the love of Christ in all she did.
Jeanette is survived by her five loving children: Raymond Khattar (Linda), Najeebe Geagea (George), Ilda Couri (the late Kenneth Couri), Tony Khattar, and Laurie Dufresne (Gerrit). She was a proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren-Jarrett, Jeanette, Nadia, Amanda, Gabriel, Rachel, Michelle, Tommy, Matthew, Mia, Dominic, Lucas, Marina, Alexandra, and Nathan. She also has 13 great-children: Maxwell, Remi, Nora, Teddy, Niko, Francine, Leo, Liam, Dominic, Lillian, Madeleine, Penelope, Sophia and another one on the way.
She also leaves behind her sister Georgette Siedlecki (Jim), many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Farid Khattar, her parents Jamil and Najeebe Romanous, her sisters Ivette Alwan, Houlia Monla, Anna Ghantous and many loved ones who now welcome her into eternal peace.
Jeanette's legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to live on in all who knew her. Though our hearts ache in her absence, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited with those she loved in the presence of the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be given to St. Anthony's Orphanage (St. Antonius) in Kfarfou-Aitou,Lebanon, (Checks Payable to Raymond Khattar) a cause that was deeply personal to Jeanette. As a small child, after losing her father at the age of three, Jeanette lived in an orphanage for a short time while her mother worked tirelessly to care for her five daughters. This experience instilled in her a lifelong compassion for children, especially those in need.
Having endured the heartbreak of eight miscarriages, Jeanette always carried a special place in her heart for children, who brought her the greatest joy. Over the years, she faithfully contributed to this charity, often collecting money to send with those traveling to Lebanon to ensure the children were cared for.
Her devotion to this cause was deeply tied to her faith. St. Anthony was her most beloved saint-her constant intercessor in prayer. In honoring Jeanette's memory, we also honor her unwavering faith and the love she poured into the lives of so many.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, with a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM, at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church. Further visitation will be from 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 with a Funeral Mass being celebrated at 10:00 AM. Chorbishop Faouzi Elia and Fr. Bechara Awada will officiate, and burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.
May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may we honor her memory by living with the same grace and love she so beautifully exemplified. On behalf of Jeanette Khattar's family, we thank you for the prayers, love & support.
