Jeanne B. Bartunek passed away on January 24, 2025 in Scottsdale following an extended illness. She was 93 years old. Born in Alton, IL in 1931, Jeanne was one of four children.
Jeanne graduated from the University of Illinois in 1953 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. That summer, she and Richard (Dick) Bartunek were married. A short time later, Dick entered the Marine Corps. After Dick's discharge from the USMC, they moved to Midland, MI where she became a Special Education Teacher in the Midland Public School system.
Jeanne paused her teaching career serveral times to raise her sons. Later, she returned as a volunteer teacher and expanded that into a new teaching program.
During their working years and continuing after retirement, Jeanne and Dick enjoyed traveling the world visiting locations in Europe, China, South East Asia, India, Canada, Mexico and Central America. Their love of the US Southwest brought them to AZ after retirement.
In her retirement years, Jeanne enjoyed volunteering her time at Midland Hospital during the summer and at both Indian School (where she'd inspire young readers) and Mayo Clinic while spending the winter in Scottsdale, AZ.
After 20+ years of being winter visitors to Scottsdale, Jeanne and Dick moved to AZ permanently in 2014.
Jeanne is survived by her two sons, William (Therese) and James, two grandchildren, Catherine (William) and Christopher, two great grandchildren, her younger brother Thomas and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dick, her parents, her older brother and sister and a granddaughter.
Jeanne wished for no ceremonies to be held.
