Jeanne Claire Kenneally, 80, of Manchester, born April 27, 1945, in Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully at her home in Manchester on October 17, 2025, after bravely facing chronic illness. She was the beloved daughter of John Henry and Vera (Hyde) Kenneally.
Jeanne is lovingly remembered by her devoted sister, Joanne (Kenneally) Sombric, and brother-in-law, David Sombric; her nephews and niece, Kevin Sombric (Irene), Theresa (Sombric) Westgard (Fredrik), and Brian Sombric (Nadia); and her cherished great-nieces and great-nephews, Emma D, Alexandra, Nick, and Noah.
Jeanne's life was a testament to perseverance and joy. After suffering an acquired brain injury at birth, she faced intellectual and physical challenges with remarkable spirit. With her family's unwavering support, Jeanne learned to walk at age three and, though unable to speak, she understood and connected deeply with those around her.
Her mother, Vera, was a pioneer in advocating for children with intellectual disabilities, helping to found what was then known as the Manchester Association for Retarded Citizens (MARC) in 1952 - now MARC, Inc. of Manchester. This organization gave Jeanne and others a place to grow, participate, and belong.
Jeanne found happiness in simple pleasures-coloring, writing, jumping rope, roller-skating, and swimming. She worked and participated at MARC for 72 years, contributing to various projects and forming lasting friendships. Bowling became the highlight of her week, and she delighted in swimming and dancing, especially the chicken dance and the Macarena.
A woman of deep faith, Jeanne was a proud member of St. Bartholomew Church and cherished holidays surrounded by family. She believed in the magic of Santa and the warmth of togetherness. After her parents passed, Jeanne lived with and was lovingly cared for by her sister and brother-in-law, who brought her along on many travels. Jeanne delighted in flying and visited places such as Hawaii, Sweden, New Zealand, Spain, and Jamaica. She was happiest by the sea, on the beach, playing in the sand and wading in the water.
Jeanne's gentle spirit, radiant smile, and unwavering courage touched everyone who knew her. She now soars as an angel, reunited with her loving parents.
Calling hours will be held at Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center Street in Manchester on Friday, October 24th from 9–10 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Bartholomew's Church, 736 Middle Turnpike E. in Manchester at 10:45 am, with burial at East Cemetery immediately after. The celebration of Jeanne's life will continue with a light reception at The Village at Buckland Court, in the Buckland Room, 432 Buckland Road, South Windsor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MARC, Inc. of Manchester, so others like Jeanne may experience lives full of possibility. To donate, please visit: https://marcct.org/ways-to-support/donate.html.

Joanne, I hope you remember my family, The White's on the corner of Saulters and Willard. I now live on Barry road, I drive in the old area a lot. I always wondered what happened to Jeanne. I remember jumping rope with Jeanne in your drive way when I was very young with my twin sister Cathy. I'm glad to read that she had a very full and happy life. She was a very gentile soul. May God bless her. Jimmy White
